Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09548976452240890157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1514795258871703434.post-6930774568846236212010-06-17T17:35:43.779-06:002010-06-17T17:35:43.779-06:00Quiros, D:

Were you aware that it might be the result of Microsoft patented technologies that Canonical uses because the company is outside Microsoft patent claims reach? Now, about Canonical's "modest" contribution: if Canonical even shipped free Ubuntu CDs on demand (losing money, of course, but the bill being footed by Shuttlesworth himself), they could have used that money to help Free Software projects and let users download Ubuntu, as all other distros do. How can you reconcile all that with Free Software ideology?
Now, as I have said, I might not like Canonical, but congratulations on your migration. Use your Lynx with pride like I enjoy my French star!Mechatotorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15816943718402270287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1514795258871703434.post-81601135245485386892010-06-17T14:15:01.530-06:002010-06-17T14:15:01.530-06:00Hehe! Of course, older versions of Ubuntu will run well on a Pentium III, but why didn't your friend install Lucid Lynx on it? A Pentium III will run Windows 95 smoothly, but will die trying to run Vista! Still, there are current Linux distros that will do just as fine on a dinosaur as on the Batcomputer. Unfortunately, Ubuntu is not one of them. No offense intended.Megatotorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02268018256762186695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1514795258871703434.post-26423558165339214502010-06-17T10:16:56.832-06:002010-06-17T10:16:56.832-06:00Quirós, D

However, I cannot accept all the criticisms against Ubuntu because many of them do not match with my own experience and many other Ubuntu users' experience. First, the WIFI connection is not as problematic as many people described it; I installed Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 in my Netbook Acer one D250 ,and it immediately recognized the wireless connection. Was it luck? Another criticism is that Ubuntu cannot run smoothly in old computers. Nevertheless, my neighbor, Ulices, installed Ubuntu 8.04 in his Pentium III computer with 256 MB of RAM, and Ubuntu ran smoothly in it. The last criticism against Ubuntu that I do not share is that the philosophy of the company that gives support to Ubuntu, Canonical, is ambivalent because its contribution to the free software is insignificant compare to other companies. In fact, the contribution of canonical to the free software is modest compared to other companies, but its contribution is significant taking into account the age, size, and number of employees of the company. Ubuntu can have some problems, but it still is an excellent distribution just as Mandriva. Megatotorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02268018256762186695noreply@blogger.com
