This is MAGEIA!

Well, OK, I am not a developer. My knowledge is not technical, so this Mageia Alpha 1 was not targeted to me. But who would blame me for trying it out?

This is what the installing sequence of Mageia looks like:

After the language selection (this alpha does include SPANISH!), the license, and the partitioning, all of them very PowerPackish, you see this:
Then, you type your root password and create your user account:
After which you create the GRUB and read a summary. Then you install updates, again, very Mandriva-style:
That's the installation: a real piece of cake. When complete, you read this message:

So, you boot the system up and you get to see this, the Mageia GRUB:

and the splash screen:

That's as far as I got.

As you can see, the alpha looks promising and, to be an early release, you can appreciate all the effort that has been put into the making of this new distro.

CONGRATULATIONS, MAGEIA TEAM! AWESOME WORK!!
¡FELICITACIONES, EQUIPO MAGEIA! ¡¡IMPRESIONANTE TRABAJO!!
マジアチーム、おめでとう

  1. My friend I think that Mageia is the poor sister of Mandriva... certanly is an alpha... but seem a clone a poor clone.... i hope that the mageia team will work to make a beautifull distro... not a fac-simile !!!!

  2. Well, I prefer a modest start which in time will get better than many bells and whistles at the beginning with nothing to offer later. (maybe that's why I'm on the Mepis side of the road, :P)

Also, I think it's just natural to find lots of similarities between the two...after all, many of the original Mandiva devs are the ones behind Mageia...pretty much like OpenOffice and LibreOffice. Only in a couple of years we will be able to observe the different paths they take.

  3. I hope and wish that Mageia will be an indipendent "distro" now seems a " mirror" of mandriva... the positive thing is that now is an indipendent " distro" .
My friend you can find spanish language on Europe section !!! your computer can work with spanish ..
Now i think that we have to support Mageia... and to stimulate to do a good distro.

And the Magic is Ready!

Two weeks ago, DistroWatch reported that Mageia 9 had been released. Back then, I was swamped with work and, even when the Mageia notifier ...
